The Thoughts in Our Minds
“As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he.” Proverbs 23:7
In order for any of this to take hold in your spirit we have to work on the thoughts in our minds. That’s where the battle is. In our minds, our thoughts, our beliefs, and our thought process. Remember the enemy is the father of lies (John 8:44). If he can get you to believe those lies, he wins. Do not give him the power!Don't give him the glory!
He even tried to tempt Yeshua! Three times, while Yeshua was super tired and hungry from fasting for 40 days, the enemy tried to deceive Yeshua by speaking lies into Him. (Matthew 4:1-11) What was Yeshua’s response every time? The Scripture says, the Scripture says, the Scripture says! Well, Yeshua was our example of how to live, so I think He made it very clear that the way to fight off the temptations of the enemy is with what the Scripture has to say about that topic! Not to mention the many times He set Himself apart to be alone with the Father.
Just because Yeshua made it clear that does not mean it is easy! That is why His mercy is new every single morning, we get a clean slate. He knows our hearts and when we are genuinely seeking the empowerment from the Holy Spirit to help us with the temptations of the enemy, He knows it. This is where meditating on the Word daily comes in handy. Knowing the Word helps us to catch the lies quicker. We get what I call a check in our spirit.
One time I was convicted by the Holy Spirit for complaining a lot. I was “trying so hard” to live by faith and it was “too hard”! I would complain to my mom or closest friends, and they would talk/pray me through it and then direct me back to Yeshua! I must point out what an amazing blessing I have in my mom and my closest friends. I know that not everyone has people like these in their lives, but I implore you to pray them in! I ask our Heavenly Father to bring you your people!
Just remember to wait patiently with anticipation and expectation and joy! – How? With the empowerment of the Holy Spirit! The point of me telling you that is, I did not feel shame or guilt, but hope that I could make a change and feel better about life. When I finally came to Him with it my prayer time went like this:
Me: "Father, I'm so sorry for complaining. I really am thankful.
Abba Father: "You brought your focus back to Me, and that is what is important!
There are times when we have thoughts, feelings or desires that the enemy uses against us with his lies. Sometimes they seem right, and we align ourselves with them and let them direct our path or hearts. However, there is a way that seems right to man, but in the end is death. (Proverbs 14:12) It is very dangerous when we align ourselves with the enemy.
We do not need to give too much attention to the enemy. That is the point! In the word, Yahweh tells us that we are to tear down any/every stronghold that exalts itself above the knowledge of Him (2nd Corinthians 10:5). We cannot afford to think thoughts that He does not think about us. When we start to think those negative thoughts, we need to check what the Scripture has to say about it.
After hearing that a half truth is a whole lie I sought the Lord about to find the truth! Unfortunately, I have believed half-truths and I learned firsthand just how dangerous and tormenting it is to align our thoughts with the lies of the enemy.
In the book Sacred Romance by John Eldridge, he talks about how we have longings in our hearts that the enemy distorts. Below I have laid out some of those thoughts and how the enemy has distorted the truth.
We are to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ. What does that mean? Well, what does Christ say about you?
You are a Child of the Most High King
You are the first and not the last
You are the head and not the tail
You are above and not beneath
C.S. Lewis put it best when he said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.” More confidence can be found in us, when our focus is on Yeshua and not ourselves. "But I thought we were supposed to make ourselves small." - half-truth… whole lie.)
A great book with powerful declarations is by Dr. Cindy Trimm, Commanding Your Morning. I suggest you get it and read it! You have the power of life and death in your words. You have the power to create or destroy! Do not take it lightly! (Proverbs 8:21) What you continue to give space in your brain… will eventually come out of your mouth! (Proverbs 23:7)
John the Baptist said, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” (John 3:30) That does not mean become small. We are to crucify our FLESH (meaning things that can harm us and those around us.). That doesn’t mean ignore the desires within that were placed there by Yahweh Himself by calling them something they are not.
Yes… I am aware that people twist the Word to justify their sin. We also know that the enemy also twists the Word to make you feel that you are bad for longing for something more. It is possible that, that longing was placed in you by your Heavenly Father. For every good thing Yahweh placed in this world and in us, the enemy has a counterfeit. (James 1:17, John 10:10)
Do not allow the enemy to confuse you. Yahweh is not a god of confusion (1st Corinthians 14:33), but the enemy is the father of lies (John 8:44). Thankfully, we have a resource that we can check on a regular basis (that never changes) to keep us from believing the lies of the enemy. Yes, the Bible can sometimes be a difficult book to read. There are good Bible studies out there that can help break it down for us. However, you can get a revelation of what He is saying specifically to you! You do not always have to rely on someone else’s interpretations of the word.
Spend time in the Word each day, you can start with your favorite verses and then keep reading. When you get to a point that is difficult to understand ask the Holy Spirit to reveal the truth to you. What are some of your favorite verses?
